Recently, I saw the post about the new version of Master of Orion. I put a ton of hours into MOO2 and I still think it’s a great game. However, once you got rolling, the AI wasn’t smart enough to fight back effectively. I would intentionally throw the Galactic Council vote to make the last part of the game more interesting. This version looks like it has a great look and similar mechanics. I just hope the AI is more intelligent this time.

And just look at the cast they have for it! Mark Hamill, Alan Tudyk, Robert Englund, Michael Dorn (our spirit animal), Dwight Schultz and John de Lancie. I think this is as close as you’re going to get for that Star Wars/Star Trek/Firefly crossover that you wrote in your spiral notebook.

To get ready for it, I’m going to play some old skool MOO2. I stumbled across a great resource (http://strategywiki.org/wiki/Master_of_Orion_II:_Battle_at_Antares) at StrategyWiki to get started. MOO2 originally was a DOS games so you’ll need to learn how to set it up (http://strategywiki.org/wiki/Master_of_Orion_II:_Battle_at_Antares/Installation) in a modern operating system.

You’ll also need to pick a good race to play (http://strategywiki.org/wiki/Master_of_Orion_II:_Battle_at_Antares/Some_effective_race_designs) . I had not known there were so many races to play. I usually played the UniTol version but I think I’m going to stream playing the CybUniTol (http://strategywiki.org/wiki/Master_of_Orion_II:_Battle_at_Antares/Some_effective_race_designs#CybUniTol) option for something different. I’ll also remove the diplomatic penalties to make it a little easier to get started.

Wish me luck in conquering the galaxy as part of the benevolent but stern leader of the Terran Democratic Empire on my Twitch channel!
